Victorian Sterling Silver Lily of the Valley Enameled Locket Pendant

In the Victorian language of flowers, lilies symbolized purity, love, and fertility, making them a particularly special gift.

Apart from normal wear, the locket is in excellent condition. It has light superficial scratches but remains in great shape with a sturdy and firm hinge that closes securely with a snap. Inside, the locket reveals two silver frames with plastic oval covers to keep photos securely stored. One of the frames bears the lion hallmark.

The front painting appears to have been pegged through a hole and sealed with resin (see photo #5). This will not be visible once covered by a photo or painting inside. The locket is in amazing antique condition with a slight patina. In photo #6, you can see that a leaf and part of the lily enamel were repaired—something I didn't notice until it was pointed out to me. On the back, the lower left has a slight dent likely caused by the hallmarks being hand-stamped too hard. The bail has been replaced, but none of these minor imperfections detract from the beauty or integrity of the locket. It is much more impressive in person! The overall quality of this locket is exceptionally well made.

The locket has not been professionally cleaned. I leave this to the new owner. I have only gently wiped it with a soft jewelry cleaning cloth.
Mark(s): On the left inside: "T.W", the lion, the anchor for Birmingham, and The letter "f" for 1880. This locket was also acid tested as sterling silver. One of the frame has the lion mark.
