Immerse yourself in the romantic folklore of the Scottish Highlands with this breathtaking Crowned Luckenbooth Brooch. Sourced from a prestigious private collection in England spanning over 25 years, this "Grand" sized specimen is a premier example of 19th-century silversmithing. A traditional token of betrothal and protection, the Luckenbooth is one of Scotland’s most enduring symbols of love and devotion.

Named for the "locked booths" of Edinburgh’s Royal Mile where they were first sold in the 16th century, these brooches carry a deep cultural heritage.

Often exchanged between lovers as a vow of fidelity, legend associates the design with the ill-fated Mary Queen of Scots and her devotion to Lord Darnley.

Historically known as a "Witch-Brooch," it was pinned to a nursing mother’s shawl or a baby’s cradle to ward off the "Evil Eye" and protect the family from harm.

This entire piece was handcrafted using traditional Victorian techniques. The frame is adorned with incredibly fine, high-relief engraving featuring scrolling acanthus leaves and foliate motifs that flow seamlessly into the central "MA" monogram (traditionally standing for Maria).

At a substantial 2.5 inches in height, this is a "Grand" sized Luckenbooth. Its architectural presence and open-work heart silhouette make it a striking centerpiece for any attire.

The piece is topped with a beautifully textured crown, signifying the "Crowning of Love" and the royal associations of the design.

Era: Victorian / 19th Century (Circa 1860–1880).

Material: Solid Sterling Silver (Professionally tested).

Dimensions: A massive 1.5" (w) x 2.5" (h).

Weight: An impressive 14.2 Grams.

Features the original elongated pin and secure "C-clasp." A small loop on the reverse was originally intended for a safety chain, a hallmark of high-value Victorian jewelry.

This heirloom is in Exceptional Antique Condition. It has been preserved with its original, deep-seated patina, which we have chosen not to polish to maintain its historical integrity. There are no repairs or structural damages. The pin is functional and secure, possessing the light surface "love marks" expected of a genuine 150-year-old treasure.

While historically worn on a sash or lapel, this Luckenbooth makes a stunning statement on a modern coat, scarf, or even velvet ribbon. Its weight and history make it a "soulful" addition to any collection—a piece that offers both beauty and a storied layer of protection.
