Antique Victorian Rolled Gold Curb Chain Bracelet with Padlock
Antique Victorian Rolled Gold Curb Chain Bracelet with Padlock
This chunky Victorian curb bracelet is lovely. For accuracy, both end links have two tiny broken rings that once held the safety chains. These can be easily snipped off if desired (see photo #6). They are not very noticeable, but I wanted to mention them for full transparency.
There is minor patina, and the piece has not been professionally cleaned. I prefer to leave cleaning to the new owner. It has only been gently wiped with a soft jewelry polishing cloth.
Overall, the condition is wonderful. There is normal wear consistent with age, including light surface scratches, and the heart padlock functions well. The side of the padlock features engraved designs that are rather simple, which is typical for many pieces of this style.
For transparency, this piece was purchased from my long time dealer in England that I work with. I also tested it with a Kee gold tester—the padlock tested in the 14k range. The chain itself did not show a strong reading, likely because there is not much gold content left to register, though you can see what appears to be a layer over the links. Based on my experience with jewelry, it does not appear to be solid gold.
