1871 Victorian 9ct Rose Gold His & Hers Scottish Luckenbooth Love Token Witch’s Heart Brooch Set.

A Luckenbooth brooch is a traditional Scottish heart-shaped brooch, often featuring a crown above one heart or two intertwined hearts. It served as a love token, commonly given as a betrothal or wedding gift. It was also worn by nursing mothers as a charm for milk flow and pinned to babies’ clothing to protect them from harm and the evil eye. One legend links it to Mary Queen of Scots gifting it to Lord Darnley; another to her engagement with the Dauphin of France. ~Wikipedia.

This is a wonderful, rare matching His & Hers Luckenbooth set made in 1871. The condition is extremely impressive for 153-year-old pieces. One is fully hallmarked; the other is unmarked but tested as 9ct gold. The unmarked brooch was almost certainly custom-made to match the hallmarked one, a common Victorian practice using melted gold (hence the slightly yellower tone on the reverse). Both are handmade and replicate each other beautifully.

Besides light surface scratches from normal wear, there are no damages, repairs, or issues. Pins are straight and function perfectly. Light natural patina remains — never professionally cleaned. I have only gently wiped them with a soft jewelry cloth.
