His obverse bore Winged Victory standing on the top of a partially visible globe, his open arms and outstretched wings, looking downward and holding in his right hand a sword and in his left hand a wreath of laurels. On its lapel, superimposed on a laurel wreath, the arms of the allies, represented clockwise, of the Third French Republic , the United States , the Empire of Japan , the Kingdom of Greece , Brazil , the Serbia , Portugal , the Kingdom of Italy and the United Kingdom , in the center are the small royal arms of Belgium. Along the edge of the medal, the bilingual circular text is engraved in relief, in French \"THE GREAT WAR FOR CIVILIZATION\" and in Dutch \"DE GROOTE OORLOG TOT DE BESCHAVING\".
